Veron
Graham, founder of The Grahamedia Agency, is used to asking
other people questions
but here are a selection of the most frequently asked questions
that have been put to him about the organisation.
“Why did you begin The Grahamedia Agency?”
VG: “I recognized that there was a
lack of quality representation for particular social groups
in society. I saw many examples of well-meaning people with
little experience of the media being misled and exploited.
A major part of my work, particularly at the BBC, was centred
on helping people engage with, understand and get the best
out of the media. I came across quite a few talented, like-minded
individuals over the years and the concept gradually took
shape."
“The Grahamedia Agency operates in many fields. Is there
any work that it doesn’t take on?”
VG: “Yes, contracts that promote negativity,
ridicule or hatred of others. Although we do work around difficult
issues, sometimes reporting bad news, I believe that you can
cover the most tragic stories in ways that can promote knowledge
and therefore bring hope for the future.”
“Hope in the media – isn’t that a strange
concept?”
VG: “No. As a Christian and the leader
of an organisation, it’s my duty to help and inspire
others and not to be involved in putting out information that
does nothing to educate, strengthen and help our readers,
listeners and viewers. If you’re not part of the solution,
you’re part of the problem."
“What was your best moment in your career so far?”
VG: “If I can have two they’d
be interviewing actor/ directors Todd Bridges and Shavar Ross
from California in 2003 and 2006 respectively. They both starred
in the 1970s/80s US sitcom ‘Diff’rent Strokes’
which I loved. It was so weird speaking to guys I’d
idolized as a kid. They were so gracious and down to earth
– as all heroes should be! I’ve met quite a few
celebrities but I still get starstruck!”
